Before entering the guided tour it is best to understand a little of how INRstar is best used in a primary care setting. INRstar can be used on a stand-alone computer but significant savings in time can be made by installing on several computers and sharing a common database on a central server. Many practices delegate the management and dosing of patients who remain in-range to a suitably trained nurse. When an out-of-range INR is recorded the nurse often has to interrupt a doctor for a decision. Using INRstar with a central database allows the nurse to merely click on a Refer button, ask the patient to go to the waiting room and calls to the next patient. The doctor, who may be running a surgery, has a copy of INRstar minimised on his or her computer. In between patients he or she restores INRstar, clicks on the workbook button and looks to see if any patients have been referred to him or her (patients can be associated with different doctors if necessary). The doctor reviews the INR, suggested dose and review period, makes any amendments necessary and then prints the diaries on the printer in the nurses room. Our existing users who run their clinics in this manner have found significant improvements in efficiency and has made their working environment more pleasant. |
